Objective: The objective of this competition is to design a bridge that will hold the weight of a truck, using free bridge design software. The winning designs are the bridges that cost the least amount of money.
To enter: the competition, you need to register and then submit your designs. You should submit your bridge every time that you create a successful design that costs less than your previous entry. Registration opens on January 15th. That is also when the new version of the bridge design software becomes available. Make sure you get the the code to enter the local (Massachusetts) competition too. Ask me for the code; it should be available soon. When you submit your design, you can automatically submit to both the national and local competition at the same time.
Who: U.S. students age 13 through grade 12 are eligible for prizes.Anyone else may enter the Open Competition. There is an Army/Navy competition for kids in 6th and 7th Grade, and all kids may enter the local, Ralph Salvucci Bridge Competition. More about eligibility...
Download and install the West Point Bridge Designer 2013 software. Use the software to design and test a virtual bridge. I will load the software on my classroom computers when it becomes available. You are welcome to work on your bridges in my classroom during tutorial or at home.
